Wild Life Refuge Membership Agreement
Welcome
Membership is currently free, but we ask all participants in Wild Life Refuge gatherings to join. This helps to nurture the intentionality of this special space.
Wild Life Refuge is a sanctuary for conscious connection, creativity, art, and movement—a living sculpture shaped by land, relationships, and lived experience. This space is also a private home, and participation in events here is a privilege that comes with shared responsibilities.
Before attending events at Wild Life Refuge, we ask you to read and agree to these core principles and terms.
Core Principles
By becoming a member of the Wild Life Refuge community, I affirm my commitment to:
1. Care for Self, Others, and Land
I will arrive with presence and care—for myself, for other participants, and for this land and home. I understand that this is a working sanctuary in development, and I will move through the space with awareness and respect.
2. Consent and Relational Integrity
I will honor boundaries—my own and others'. I understand that all interactions here are grounded in consent, respect, and the intention to build authentic connection. I will communicate clearly and listen with openness.
3. Stewardship and Responsibility
I recognize that I am a guest in a private home and on living land. I will treat all spaces, structures, and natural areas with care. I will follow guidance from hosts and facilitators, and I will help maintain the beauty and safety of this place.
4. Presence and Participation
I will show up fully—to the experience, to the community, and to the creative or contemplative practice being offered. I understand that gatherings here are participatory and relational, not transactional.
5. Accessibility and Inclusion
I understand that infrastructure is evolving and that accessibility varies by event and location on the property. I will communicate my needs clearly and work collaboratively with hosts to ensure my participation is safe and meaningful. I will extend patience and care as we all navigate this developing space together.
6. Confidentiality and Privacy
I will respect the privacy of other participants and the intimate nature of what is shared in this space. What is said and experienced here stays here, unless explicitly shared by individuals about their own experience.
Terms and Liability Release
Acknowledgment of Risks
I understand that Wild Life Refuge is a private residence located on rural land with natural terrain, varying elevations, uneven surfaces, forested areas, water features, and developing infrastructure. I acknowledge that:
- The property does not currently meet ADA or universal accessibility standards
- Activities may include physical movement, art-making with various materials, outdoor activities, and other creative or embodied practices
- There are resident cats on the property, and the space may not be suitable for people with strong allergies
- Weather, terrain, and seasonal conditions may present challenges
- Some structures and pathways are still under development
I understand that participation in activities at Wild Life Refuge involves inherent risks, including but not limited to risks of personal injury, property damage, or illness.
Assumption of Risk
I voluntarily choose to participate in events at Wild Life Refuge with full knowledge of the risks involved. I assume all risks associated with my participation, including those arising from:
- The condition of the property, structures, and pathways
- My own actions and the actions of other participants
- The nature of the activities offered
- Travel to and from the property
Release of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Wild Life Refuge, Tona Williams, event facilitators, co-hosts, volunteers, and all other persons or entities involved with Wild Life Refuge events (collectively, "Released Parties") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of or related to:
- Any loss, damage, or injury (including death) to my person or property
- My participation in any activity, event, or gathering at Wild Life Refuge
- Any act or omission by the Released Parties, whether based on negligence or otherwise
This release applies to both present and future claims, known and unknown.
Medical Treatment
I authorize Wild Life Refuge hosts and facilitators to obtain emergency medical treatment for me if necessary. I understand that I am responsible for all medical expenses incurred.
Property Damage and Personal Responsibility
I agree to be financially responsible for any damage I cause to the property, structures, furnishings, or equipment at Wild Life Refuge, whether through negligence or otherwise.
Photography and Media
I understand that events at Wild Life Refuge may be documented through photography or video. I consent to the use of my image or likeness in promotional materials, websites, or social media related to Wild Life Refuge, unless I specifically opt out in writing.
Compliance with Guidelines
I agree to:
- Follow all instructions and safety guidelines provided by hosts and facilitators
- Arrive and depart at scheduled times
- Communicate any health conditions, physical limitations, or accessibility needs that may affect my participation
- Refrain from behavior that endangers myself, others, or the property
- Respect quiet hours and neighbors
- Adhere to parking instructions and property access guidelines
Right to Refuse or Remove
I understand that Wild Life Refuge hosts reserve the right to refuse admission or remove any participant whose behavior is disruptive, unsafe, or inconsistent with these core principles.
Governing Law
This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Wisconsin.
Membership Agreement
I affirm that:
- I am 18 years of age or older
- I have read and understand this entire agreement
- I agree to uphold the Core Principles stated above
- I voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation at Wild Life Refuge
- I freely and voluntarily release the Released Parties from all liability as described above
- I understand this is a binding legal agreement affecting my legal rights
